SARASOTA, September 6, 2011 – Willis A. Smith Construction, Inc. announces the addition of three new employees, Mark Callahan, John Osborne and Jenn McAlister, LEED• AP BD + C. The company’s new professionals are experts in their field and bring 45+ years of combined construction experience to the Willis A. Smith organization. Entering its 40th year of service to the region, Willis A. Smith Construction, Inc. has constructed a large number of SmithBuilt™ landmark structures up and down the gulf coast. The firm specializes in educational, industrial, medical and performing arts construction. A few of their larger current projects include Booker High School Rebuild, LECOM School of Dental Medicine, Sarasota County Technical Institute and the recent completion of the Tervis Tumbler facility expansion. This year, the firm was awarded the President’s Volunteer Service Award from President Barack Obama, for providing over 2,000 hours of community service to Sarasota and Manatee organizations.
Mark Callahan, Superintendent. Callahan, originally from Virginia Beach, VA, he received his training and project experience from one the world’s largest international contractors. He has been in the construction industry for 30 years.
John Osborne, Superintendent. Osborne has been a Superintendent for 15 years, building a wide variety of projects. He was born and raised in Manatee County, and has called this area home all of his life. He received his construction training on the job and in the field, and brings a substantial amount of local knowledge and experience to the firm.
Jenn McAlister, LEED AP BD + C, Project Manager. McAlister has 10 years experience as a Project Manager, and has completed numerous projects in southwest Florida ranging from $1M to $21M. She is originally from Sebring, FL, and a graduate of the University of Florida, Class of 2000. Jenn is very active in our local community serving on the Board of Directors of the Florida Gulf Chapter of USGBC, and their Executive Committee, holding the position of Secretary. She also sits on the local chapter of the USGBC’s Myakka River Branch Governing Council. This past weekend she served as a Judge for the Gala Verde, the USGBC Green Building Awards program for South Florida. In addition, she also serves on the Board of Directors for Sarasota County Leadership and Save the Seabirds. Jenn is Willis A. Smith’s 16th LEED AP.
